Guidance to Help You Fully Understand EAS System

Jan. 11, 2022

The EAS system is placed at the entrance/exit of the store and the detection system alerts or otherwise alerts employees when it senses an active tag. The decision for a retailer to purchase an electronic merchandise monitoring (EAS) system may seem simple. However, without proper research, you won't get the results you need.

EAS Systems

Antenna: The antenna is the component located at the exit door or any other area that needs to be protected. There are many options for antennas, including the width of the area you want to cover, the type of product, aesthetics and budget. As your EAS expert, ENGUARD is here to help you find the best antenna for you and your store.

EAS objectives: These are the devices that need to be protected on your products. Few stores choose to protect all the items in their stores. The percentage or items that need to be protected varies depending on regional crime, product mix and other factors. We have both soft and hard tags for sale for different items and welcome your visit.

Deactivation/Removal: Unlike antennas, there are only a few options to choose from when deactivating disposable tags. For reusable targets, make sure you have the right removal tool for the item you are buying!

RF & AM

With a little knowledge and planning, EAS systems can deliver an excellent return on investment and be easy to use and maintain. Make sure you understand what you are getting into. There are many options and terms you should understand as part of your buying decision:.

RF radio frequency. These tags are essentially a small radio station. Sensing is accomplished by scanning the resonant frequency and detecting the chip. De-activation of the tag is usually done using a de-activation pad. The de-activation pads function by partially destroying the capacitors, and the fault disable (FTD) rate of the RF system is very low.

AM acoustic magnetism. AM tags and labels are made of two strips: a black metal strip and a magnetic metal strip that acts as a bias magnet (to increase signal strength) and allows deactivation. The tag is deactivated by demagnetizing the strip so that the response is small enough that the detector will not detect it. To disable a tag item, contact must be made with the deactivation pad. As a result, AM systems have a much higher Failure to Disable (FTD) rate than RF systems.

An EAS system is like any other device or tool you need to operate and ultimately profit from in your retail store. It is as important to any retailer as a display case in a jewelry store, a hanger in a clothing store or a shelf in a grocery store. Purchasing an EAS system will help you sell more, lose less and protect your investment.
